Watch out for this new PayPal scam

Cybercriminals have launched a new PayPal campaign which is targetting unaware users.

The PayPal scam mail is titled ‘Resolve these issues with your Paypal account!’, the PayPal scam mail continues to claim that there are various problems with your PayPal account and that they need to be fixed as soon as possible.

The scam messages did bypass the spam protection service from Gmail and other providers, the scam has been made in a way that a picture is being used instead of providing text.

This will allow the scam to bypass multiple spam scanners.

The introduction of the PayPal scam reads:

We need your help resolving an issue with your account. To give us time to work together on this we’ve temporalily limited what you can do with your account until the issue is resolved. we understand it may be frustrating to to have full access to your PayPal account. We want to work with you to get your account back to normal as quickly as possible.

The scam continues to explain what the problem is:

What’s the problem ?

It’s been a little while since you used your account. For reasons relating to the safe use of the PayPal service we need some more information about your account.

The PayPal scammers also provide a fake reference number:

Reference number: PP-001-278-254-803

They continue their scam mail:

It’s usually quite straight forward to take care of these things. Most of the time, we just need some more information about yor account or latest transactions.

1. Download the attached document and open it in a browser window secure.

2. Confirm that you are the account holder and follow the instructions

As you can read above the scammers are using their final message to lure the unaware users to the malicious website. If you take a look at the URL which are being used in the hyperlinks you will see that the PayPal scammers will try to redirect unaware users to a malicious website.

Do not provide these scammers any information!
