Vodafone hacked: Customer data viewed

Vodafone UK has informed Reuters that they have been the victim of an hack which allowed the cyber criminals to view nearly 2000 customer accounts.

The Vodafone spokesperson said that:

“The attackers had potentially gained access to the victims’ bank sort codes and the last four numbers of their bank accounts, along with their names and mobile telephone numbers.”

He also stated that the cybercriminals were able to gain access as they had acquired credentials from an unknown external source.

Vodafone UK also stated that the company is contacting the customers which are involved and that other customers do not need to be concerned. The spokesperson also stated that the chance is there that the obtained information might be used by cybercriminals in future attacks.
