There is major money to be earned on the internet and the cybercriminals are aware of this. One of the techniques they use to generate an online revenue is the Clickfraud method. Symantec has discovered and reviewed the Trojan.Viknok malware which is responsible for various Clickfraud attacks.
The Trojan was discovered in April 2013, it infects DLL files with a malicious payload. This malware has been found on 32 and 64-bit versions on Windows XP, Vista and 7.
Symantec reports that one of the Viknok versions plays a random audio clip through the victims speaker. In the first week of May alone, Symantec saw 16,500 unique Viknok infections. The majority of victims are located in the US. Read the full report on the Viknok malware on the Symantec website.
