Foreign state hackers have been targeting the Netherlands via the internet for decades. It is since a couple of years that these attacks are being shown in the major news publishers.
We have seen that the Diginotar company had been breached by foreign state hackers, we have witnessed the attack on Gemalto which is a SIM card producer and in February the ASML Sim card machine producer had been hacked.
Vodafone, T-Mobile and KPN will not replace SIMs after the hack at the Dutch SIM card manufacturer Gemalto.
Gemalto announced Wednesday morning that the US National Security Agency and its British counterpart GCHQ were behind the hack.
According to ASML its IT staff discovered the intrusion but did not say who was behind the attack. ASML will not provide further information about the cyber breach. Dutch security professionals have stated that this might be the work of the PLA UNIT 61486 which is the Chinese government hacking unit.
