The blue screen of death is something which a lot of Windows users will recognize. It is annoying, and it is often caused by something very stupid.
Scammers have setup various fake Blue Screen of Death environments to lure unaware users to a fake “computer helpdesk”.
The blue screen of death scam is being spread via the iLivid software which is a potentially unwanted program (PUP) according to various anti-virus companies.
The scam works in the following order:

- Once activated, the fake blue screen of death will instruct the victim to dial a number for support
- If the user dials the number, they will be connected to a scammer which will social engineer financial information from the victim.
Please be aware of the fake blue screen of death scams. Do not simply call anyone to fix your computer. Ask your neighbor or your local computer store.
