Rhysida Ransomware Targets Sapros and Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, Following Attack on Chilean Army

Recent activities of the notorious Rhysida Ransomware have raised concerns in the global cybersecurity landscape. Following its attack on the Chilean Army in May, Rhysida has now listed two new high-profile targets: tech giant Sapros, and the highly regarded Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences.

Earlier this month, on June 15th, 2023, the threat actors behind Rhysida leaked online what they claim to be documents stolen from the Chilean Army’s network.

The leak came after the Chilean Army confirmed on May 29 that its systems had been impacted by a security incident. According to Chilean cybersecurity firm CronUp, the network was isolated following the breach, with military security experts starting the recovery process of affected systems.

Now, the targeting of Sapros and the Kaiserslautern University adds to Rhysida’s escalating threat level. Given the vast digital infrastructure of Sapros and the valuable academic data held by the University, the potential impacts of such an attack are immense and far-reaching. Rhysida claims to hold personally identifiable information (PII).
