The head of the Bundesamtes für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), part of the German Ministry of the Interior, has warned of serious and even fatal car accidents that may occur at the hands of hackers.
In an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Arne Schönbohm points to research in the United States where hackers had managed to hack cars remotely. “In the US, cars have already been hacked”, stated the BSI director. It is then a small step to manipulate the brakes, causing serious and even fatal accidents.
The growing digitization risks must be taken seriously – Schönbohm therefore called for more attention to cyber security.
