Facebook is building a massive fleet of solar-powered internet drones

Facebook has recently published their solar-powered internet drone, and it is massive. Facebook has named the drone ‘Aquila’, Aquila has been designed to extend the internet access to remote parts of the world. In other words, it brings internet to places where there is no internet.

The drone has been developed in such a way that it is lightweight and capable of flying at high altitudes. During the test with Aquila, they made Aquila fly a few thousand feet in 96 minutes at Yuma, Arizona.

The idea of Facebook is to have a complete fleet of these type of drones. Facebook wants to fly them for 3 months at a time at 60000 feet in order to break the world record for the longest solar-powered unmanned flight. The current record stands on 2 weeks.
