Dutch Secret Services will hold a private DNA-database

The Minister of internal affairs Plasterk, has stated that he wants to provide the AIVD (Dutch Secret Services) the capability to hold their own and private DNA-database. The DNA-database is supposed to allow future investigations to check the database for DNA matches, it is currently still a discussion.

The current research which is performed by the AIVD is only allowed to be used for the identification of individuals, if  the individual has been identified, the AIVD is forced to destroy the DNA information which they have collected, but with the new law, it will be possible for the AIVD to store this information in their private DNA-database.

The new law has been discussed as the AIVD is already illegally storing information in private databases, these databases are not regulated and they are illegal by Dutch law.
