Cyber criminals have exploited the WannaCry ransomware outbreak to spread phishing emails on the subject. The e-mails appear to be from UK telecom provider BT.
The email does not refer directly to the WannaCry outbreak. However, the report states that due to incidents on an international scale, BT has rolled out preventive security measures. Due to this upgrade, access to certain features of the user account would be temporarily restricted. By clicking on a link, users must confirm the “security upgrade”.
The link points to a convincing domain name, according to Action Fraud.
