Cyber security on medical devices and applications are a must. The late security expert Barnaby Michael Douglas Jack (22 November 1977 – 25 July 2013) had made various reports which concluded how easy it is for malicious hackers to turn “medical” applications into “killer” applications which can be used on the victim.
The killer application would allow the hacker to do the following to their victims
The hacker could infect a person which is using a medical device. This would allow the hacker to send messages to the victim, which would clearly state that if you do not do “X”, I will send the “Kill” command to your medical device. Now “X” could be anything, it could be a payment of 500 dollar each month.
Now this is really crazy, but it could be that someone simply dislikes the person which is using a “medical” device. The hacker could use the vulnerable medical device to make the life of the victim a real hell.
For the buzz
Now we will always have the people that will simply do something, because it is possible. They will do it for the buzz. This is another case which could go wrong very fast.
Vulnerable devices could be:
- Insulin pumps
- Heart implants
