Akamai Warned Linux Systems Exploited for DDoS Attacks

Cyber criminals have exploited Linux servers with malware which launch powerful Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks,warned Akamai in a threat advisory.

According Akamai’s Prolexic Security Engineering Research Team (PLXsert) cyber criminals have exploited Linux servers that run unpatched versions of Apache Struts and Tomcat with vulnerabilities.

Two pieces of malware (IptabLes IptabLex) are being used to change Linux systems into botnets that produce significant payloads(119 Gbps bandwidth and 110 Mpps in volume) by executing Domain Name System (DNS) and SYN flood attacks.
