A former security researched who had turned into a criminal hacker has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for hacking into financial institutions.
The hacker named Max Ray Butler (nickname Iceman) was sentenced Friday morning in Pittsburgh on charged of wire fraud and identity theft.
He gained notoriety for hacking into carder forum Web sites. He forced members of those websites to conduct their business trough his own site (cardersmarket.com).
This isn't Butler's first time facing a hacking sentence. Butler served an 18-month prison term for cybercrime. He said in a memorandum Thursday "I was homeless, staying on a friends couch. I couldn't get work"
This is the highest conviction for a criminal hacker ever since.
