US MARINES ANNUAL CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING

IN MAY OF 2008 THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE DEFINED CYBERSPACE AS A WARFIGHTING DOMAIN. INCREASINGLY, CYBER THREATS ARE EVIDENT IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND SYSTEMS THAT THE MARINE CORPS OPERATES AND OUR CYBER TRAINING MUST ADDRESS THIS REALITY.

  • THE PURPOSE OF THIS MARADMIN IS TO UPDATE THE CURRENT CYBER ANNUAL TRAINING REQUIREMENT FOR ALL ACTIVE DUTY AND RESERVE DOD SERVICE MEMBERS, DOD CIVILIANS, CONTRACTORS, AND OTHERS WITH USMC NIPRNET AND/OR SIPRNET ACCOUNT ACCESS. REFERENCE A MANDATES ANNUAL INFORMATION ASSURANCE (IA) AWARENESS TRAINING. REFERENCES B AND C MANDATE ANNUAL TRAINING ON PROTECTING PII. REF D MANDATES INCREASING CYBERWARFIGHTING CAPABILITIES ACROSS THE MARINE CORPS.

  • THIS UPDATE TO TRAINING CONSISTS OF TWO ANNUAL CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING CURRICULA, "USMC CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING" FOR ACTIVE DUTY AND RESERVE DOD SERVICE MEMBERS AND "CIVILIAN CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING" FOR DOD CIVILIANS, CONTRACTORS AND OTHERS THAT HAVE A USMC NIPRNET AND OR SIPRNET ACCOUNT. EACH CURRICULUM CONTAINS THREE COURSES. ALL THREE COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE TRAINING FOR THAT CALENDAR YEAR (CY).

A. THE USMC CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING CURRICULUM CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES:

(1) "CARELESS KEYSTROKES CAN KILL" A 14 MINUTE VIDEO ON CYBER OPSEC.
(2) THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE (DOD) INFORMATION ASSURANCE AWARENESS COURSE.
(3) THE DOD PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION (PII) ANNUAL TRAINING COURSE.

B. THE CIVILIAN CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING CURRICULUM CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES:
(1) "LETHAL KEYSTROKES" POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON CYBER OPSEC.
(2) THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE (DOD) INFORMATION ASSURANCE AWARENESS COURSE.
(3) THE DOD PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION (PII) ANNUAL TRAINING COURSE.

  • THESE UPDATED TRAINING REQUIREMENTS ARE EFFECTIVE AS OF 1 JANUARY 2011. THIS WILL SHIFT THE CURRENT PARADIGM FROM AN ANNUAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRAINING REQUIREMENT TO MAINTAIN YOUR NIPRNET AND OR SIPRNET ACCESS, TO A WARFIGHTING TRAINING REQUIREMENT FOR SAFELY OPERATING IN THE CYBERSPACE WARFIGHTING DOMAIN. UPDATES TO THE COURSES WITHIN THESE CURRICULA ARE BEING DEVELOPED AND WILL BE POSTED TO MARINENET AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE. THE INTENT OF THIS SPIRAL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS IS TO GIVE EACH INDIVIDUAL WORKING WITH THE MARINE CORPS THE MOST UP-TO-DATE TRAINING PRODUCT AVAILABLE. UPDATES TO A COURSE WILL NOT REQUIRE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THIS TRAINING FOR THE CY TO RETAKE THE COURSE DURING THAT CY. ADDITIONAL CYBER RELATED TRAINING COURSES FOR THE MARINE CORPS INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY ARE BEING PLACED ON MARINENET AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED UNDER SEPARATE CORRESPONDENCE.

  • THIS ANNUAL TRAINING IS TO BE COMPLETED VIA MARINENET, WWW.MARINENET.USMC.MIL. COMMANDERS WILL ENSURE ALL MEMBERS WITHIN THEIR COMMANDS THAT HAVE A USMC NIPRNET AND OR SIPRNET ACCOUNT, COMPLETE THIS TRAINING ANNUALLY. DOD SERVICE MEMBERS AND DOD CIVILIANS THAT ARE FIRST TIME MARINENET USERS AND ARE ENROLLED IN THE DEFENSE ENROLLMENT ELIGIBILITY SYSTEM (DEERS), CAN CREATE AN ACCOUNT BY CLICKING ON THE "CREATING A NEW MARINENET ACCOUNT" LINK IN THE "HOW TO BEGIN?" SECTION OF THE MARINENET HOME PAGE. CONTRACTORS, INTERNATIONAL OFFICERS SERVING WITH THE MARINE CORPS AND OTHERS NOT ENROLLED IN DEERS, WILL REQUIRE COMMAND SPONSORSHIP TO GET A MARINENET ACCOUNT. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING FOR AN ACCOUNT CAN BE FOUND BY CLICKING ON THE "REQUESTING A MARINENET ACCOUNT" LINK IN THE "HOW TO BEGIN?" SECTION OF THE MARINENET HOME PAGE.

  • MARINENET CAN BE ACCESSED VIA ANY PUBLIC KEY ENABLED (PKE) COMPUTER USING YOUR EMAIL CERTIFICATE AND PIN OR VIA ANY NON-PKE COMPUTER USING YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD. TO ACCESS A COURSE, TYPE IN THE TITLE OF THE COURSE, "USMC CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING" OR "CIVILIAN CYBER AWARENESS TRAINING," INTO THE SEARCH WINDOW AND CLICK THE "SEARCH CATALOG" BUTTON. IN THE NEXT WINDOW, CLICK ON THE ENROLL ICON TO LAUNCH THE COURSE. FOR ASSISTANCE WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS ACCESSING MARINENET OR VIEWING THESE COURSES CONTACT THE MARINENET HELP DESK AT HTTPS:SLASHSLASHLMSHELP.MARINENET.USMC.MIL OR CALLING BETWEEN 0800-1900 EST, MONDAY - FRIDAY AT (888) 4DL-USMC (435-8762).

  • THIS BULLETIN IS APPLICABLE TO THE MARINE CORPS RESERVE.
