A 20-year-old FedEx employee is facing a charge in federal court after he allegedly launched a cyber attack on a Marlboro human resources company.
Trevor R. McDonald, of Maplewood, Minn., deployed a “brute force attack” against the servers of Workscape Inc. last May, according to Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Workscape is a provider of integrated human resources solutions. According to Homeland Security Investigations, Workscape hosted an employee benefits site for FedEx Ground, and Mr. McDonald created a computer program to hack into the system and obtain personal information about fellow FedEx employees.
Mr. McDonald allegedly obtained names, addresses and Social Security numbers but never used the information, according to investigators.
The Minnesota man is charged with violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
