Spammers are now tempting people into sharing their personal information by inviting them to take part in the London 2012 Olympics as "co-coordinators and welcome partners", it has been revealed.
Leading internet security firm Symantec Corp has identified more than 300 websites that have been compromised even before the Olympics kicks off on July 27 and the number is rising by the day.
As the excitement builds up, the firm has uncovered a new scam where spammers entice people into sharing data by telling them that they can play a role in the Olympics.
According to “ZDNet”, last week, when Microsoft released the critical Internet Explorer update, the company issued a warning that working exploit code could be released within 30 days.
Less than a week later, an exploit for one of the “critical” browser flaw has been fitted into the freely available Metasploit point-and-click attack tool and samples have been released to Contagio, a blog that tracks live malware attacks.
The Iranian Oil Ministry, the National Iranian Oil Company, and a number of other companies affiliated with the ministry, were targeted by a computer worm on Sunday, but the malware was detected before it could infect the systems, the Mehr News Agency has learnt.
The cyber attack disrupted Internet access at the aforementioned organizations and companies, and the relevant officials are investigating the issue.
However, the Oil Ministry has not yet confirmed the report.
